Growing Together Logo

The Americas team hosted the inaugural regional field day, Growing Together (August 13-16), in Woodland, CA. The event centered on "Innovations that Provide Grower Solutions," showcasing the solutions available in our vegetable seed portfolios, including watermelon, melon, zucchini, honeydews, tomato, pepper, bean, and sweet corn.

Grower solutions highlighted throughout the event:

  • New firm-flesh watermelon varieties with enhanced shipping ability, delivering flavor and quality, ideal for whole or fresh-cut markets
  • Watermelon rootstock combined with proven Syngenta varieties, for better flavor, resistance to disease and stronger plant performance
  • Range of the IDEAL Melons™ portfolio, including varieties with the Harvest Indicator Trait
  • Syngenta's newest addition to the melon portfolio - Honeydews!
  • Groundbreaking Downy Mildew resistant zucchini varieties
  • INSV resistant romaine, including new variety, Stampede, helping growers in intense disease pressure areas get more out of their lettuce crop
  • The newest in the sweet corn Attribute® portfolio for improved insect control and herbicide tolerance.
  • Our range of active greenhouse tomatoes with TOBRFV resistance
  • Mechanization – vendors demonstrated the newest mechanical transplant technology that ensures the elimination of down-time in the transplant phase for a range of crops

Apart from the open-field demo, an innovation space was set up to feature Syngenta’s award-winning brands IDEAL Melons™ and YOOM® purple tomato

To further enrich the experience, Syngenta's experts in Seedcare (Remco Kwakman), Crop Protection (Jorge Cisneros), vegetable breeding (Les Padley, Sandy Josue, and Rakesh Kumar), along with Tom Turini from the UC Davis extension, delivered presentations throughout the week. They discussed new developments and solutions offered by Syngenta, as well as trends and key issues in disease resistance, and shared insights on topics such as whitefly virus transmission.

The Growing Together field day event was successful, attracting over 200 attendees from around the world. The Americas team is eager to leverage the momentum generated by this event for the upcoming season.
