Processing Sweet Corn
Consistency and reliability every step of the way for growers and processors.

Meeting global demands for sweet corn
Canned, fresh, or frozen — sweet corn is used differently all over the world. But the processing methods and grower challenges remain the same. Processors and growers need a partner who can help them deal with their changing needs. At Syngenta, breeders and researchers are passionate about creating sweet corn hybrids that withstand the obstacles that come each season. The research and development process is stringent, which helps to ensure only the best hybrids make the cut.
Big data drives smarter decisions
Growers need resilient corn hybrids to manage pests, diseases, and environmental conditions. By processing 13,000 plots per year, we gather an extensive data set that helps us discover new ways to fit more plants per acre, achieve more yield potential per acre, and attain greater recovery in processing.
Sweet corn genetics that cater to processor needs
Properly evaluating sweet corn varieties for canning and freezing performance can be complex and difficult to understand for those who do not do the process, which is why we’re proud to have the only USDA-certified facility in the vegetable seed industry.
“Processors want consistency and reliability not only in the grower’s field but while it’s in a canning and freezing facility, too.”
— Ilene Jones, Syngenta Sweet Corn Breeding Team Lead
Our state-of-the-art yield, recovery, and sample processing facility, The Yield Accelerator Facility in Minnesota, USA, integrates automation, weighing, husking, cutting, and canning/freezing technologies — designed for front-to-end product evaluation. This facility allows us to take experimental varieties at a very early stage in the development process and test them in real-world conditions to measure both yield potential and recovery – the two biggest impacts on profitability for growers and processors.
