ToBRFV-resistant rootstocks
There is much discussion about the usefulness and necessity of resistant rootstocks and opinions vary. What about now?
Some say that a resistant variety alone is sufficient to combat ToBRFV, others do not know because specific advantages or disadvantages are unknown and a third group believes that extra protection of the crop by means of a resistant rootstock is only a good thing. There are good reasons for the latter opinion and we are happy to share them with you.
Firstly, because with the combination of a resistant upper stem and a non-resistant lower stem, there is the possibility that virus particles living in the plant are transported to the roots by the sap flow and can multiply there. They are then pushed back into the plant and can still do their destructive work.
And secondly, because our resistant rootstocks perform equally or better than non-resistant rootstocks, so as a grower you do not have to make any compromises in the fight against ToBRFV.
Syngenta has four resistant rootstocks commercially available. We would be happy to discuss with you which one best suits your cultivation method, cultivated variety and wishes. Please contact one of our experts.
